Megan, her fiancé Paul and 4 friends arrived at High Grosvenor the weekend before the Covid19 guidelines changed again the following Monday ... Phewww


Correspondence beforehand led us to decide upon a predominantly African tasting in regards to wines and spirits. Managing Director Mark Davies of our sister company Hard to Find Wines organised a portfolio to be proud of ...

Alongside artisan breads, oils and fruits we commenced with Le Lude Brut, the specialist Methode Cap Classique producer from Franschhoek, South Africa and lagers from Windhoek Namibia adding to the fizz.

An around the world Sauvignon Blanc trio to tingle the tastebuds were complimented by Haute Cabriere’s Chardonnay Pinot Noir ( Hard To Find Wine's best selling wine and long-standing South African partner farm ) and again from Haute Cabriere their Pinot Noir Rose which was a newbie on South African Megan ... it didn’t disappoint.


A starter of smoked salmon, crayfish and dill parcels with lemon dill mayonnaise was created by Executive Head Chef Mark Gittens.


Onto the reds which were enjoyed in our garden room as the weather was lush.. all of these were from South African producers. Glenwood's ‘Save Our Rhinos’, Rainbow's End Cabernet Franc, Asara Cape Fusion with the blockbuster conclusion being the First XI Belter, a wine which is made by Wynland Groblaar in unison with his school friend and cricketing god Faf Du Plessis and A B de Villiers of similar ilk. At this stage the guests were invited to the tasting rooms bar for the dinner hosted by Tim Hodgkinson, this consisted of individual ‘grazing plates’ of grilled chicken, slaws, fries and salads. H20 was required by some with this coming from our estate borehole. Wines were chosen from the tasting to accompany the meal with chef sending white chocolate and vanilla Creme brûlée’s to sweeten the mood.


Post dinner was informal, music played a few danced whilst enjoying spirits including the Capes KWV Pot Still Brandy, Amarula cream liquor and gins from the aforementioned Asara Estate In Stellenbosch. Chef Mark even found time to send a wondrous cheese platter which was appreciated late into the night ............


" The estate and house are stunning! We would love to return one of these days to stay a little longer. The beds super comfy and the house had everything you needed - I have very fond memories of playing giant Jenga in the garden - even the sun came out for us that weekend which was just the cherry on top!

In terms of the wine tasting, Tim and Mark were super professional and very knowledgeable about their products. I was pleasantly surprised by HC Pinot noir rose as I don’t usually drink rose at all! But the winner for the evening had to be the final tasting, the Asara Cape Fusion was just superb! Thank you so much for the enjoyable weekend and your hospitality! " Megan
